Billikens LEAD: The Servant Leadership Experience at Saint Louis University
Through the guiding pillars of the Billikens LEAD framework, students will explore the following competencies by participating in Billikens LEAD events:

Most Mondays beginning October 1st, there will be a program based around one or more of the Billikens LEAD competencies. Join us in the Sinquefield State Room, DuBourg 406, for as many weeks as you can! This semester will feature workshops and lectures by SLU’s faculty, staff and students, as well as two keynote speakers coming to campus!

|Natasha T. Miller is a performance poet, author, activist and film producer, and three-time Women of the World Poetry Slam top five finalist. In 2012, Natasha was selected to become a Detroit Kresge artist fellow and 25k grant recipient. She has been a part of many national slam teams, starred in a Sprite commercial, and in 2011 started her own publishing company. Since then she’s published two books, including "Coming out of Nowhere", a social networking memoir about homosexuality and cyber bullying. Her recent film production “Treasure” has just been accepted into the LA film fest. Natasha believes her purpose is to be an agent for change and forgiveness, and to spread the message of acceptance through her art.|

|Drew Dudley’s TEDx talk “Everyday Leadership” has been viewed close to five million times and praised by Time, Business Insider, and Inc. magazines. Dudley is the founder of Day One Leadership, where he works with individuals and organizations around the world to unlock their leadership potential. Everyone who attends this lecture will also receive a copy of Drew’s book, “Everyday Leadership.”|

2018-2019 Student Leadership Honoraria
The Student Leadership Honoraria strives to recognize students for their efforts as student leaders. Recipients will learn to articulate their impact on the SLU community, as well as their goals for their organization during their leadership term. Honoraria recipients receive $3,000 toward their SLU expenses. If you have questions about the Billikens LEAD Honoraria, contact Brieanna Hodskins.
Expectations for Honoraria Recipients
- Maintain a mentor relationship with your existing organization advisor. Required to meet a minimum of three times prior to the completion of the Impact Project, utilizing guided activities such as an Examen, goal setting and reflection.
- Participate in the Billikens LEAD competency TedxTalk series. This includes attending
educational sessions followed by Student Leadership Honoraria cohort peer presentations.
Each Honoraria will be required to give their own five to seven minute presentation
on a chosen Billikens LEAD competency for their peers and invited guests. The TedxTalk
series will follow an eight-week program schedule:

- The Student Leadership Honoraria experience will culminate in a year-end Impact Project Fair directly before the 2019 Leadership and Service Awards (April 8, 2019). The Impact Project is an opportunity to reflect on your leadership role in the 2018-2019 year and an opportunity to demonstrate and/or articulate how you have developed in your leadership roles through this experience.
Leadership and Service Awards
The annual Saint Louis University Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony recognizes students, staff and faculty who exemplify the qualities and excellence of service, leadership and the Jesuit philosophy of men and women for others.
Established in the spring of 1992, the Leadership and Service Awards celebrate the significant achievements of students, student organizations, faculty and staff for their contributions of leadership and service to Saint Louis University and the surrounding community. Individuals are encouraged to nominate a person or organization they believe exemplifies the above qualities. There are more than 15 award categories to choose from. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of faculty and staff who will select the award recipients.
Nomination forms will be available early in the spring semester. The awards ceremony will be held Monday, April 8th.
Father Mario Ross, O.F.M. conv., Leadership and Service Award
This award, named after Father Mario Ross, O.F.M. conv., former director of campus ministry, is given to recognize a graduating student who has achieved a well-rounded record of experience in co-curricular involvements and who has made outstanding contributions to leadership and service during his/her years at Saint Louis University. This is one of Saint Louis University's top honors for student involvement.
Father Paul Reinert, S.J., Service Award
This award, named after Father Paul Reinert, S.J., former University president and chancellor emeritus, recognizes a graduating student who has achieved a well-rounded record of experience and made outstanding contributions to community service and involvements during his/her year(s) at Saint Louis University. This is one of Saint Louis University's top honors for student involvement.
Student Hall of Fame Award
This award recognizes graduating students that have exemplified outstanding scholarship, leadership, involvement and service throughout their career at Saint Louis University.

Mev Puleo Social Justice Award
This award is named in honor of Mev Puleo, a 1985 graduate of Saint Louis University, who went on to become a successful photojournalist. Before her death in 1996, Mev's work focused on the lives of the poor around the world. This award recognizes a student who has succeeded in bringing an awareness of social justice issues to others and has personally challenged her or himself to experience other cultures and lifestyles. The recipient of the Mev Puleo award is a student who embraces the diversity of identities that our community inspires, thereby espousing not only the values of Mev Puleo but also the tenets of the SLU Oath of Inclusion.
Exemplary Achievement Award
This award recognizes students who have made significant contributions to the advancement of an organization, program or activity. Nominees who receive this award do not necessarily need to hold an elected or appointed position within an organization, but they have been able to positively affect change and further the mission of their organization by actively engaging in the servant leadership process.
Omicron Delta Kappa New Student Leader Award
This award is given by Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society, and it recognizes a first-year student who has been involved in campus or community activities and has maintained a strong academic standing. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. This student should demonstrate the ability to lead as well as the potential to become a strong student leader at Saint Louis University and in the community.
Division of Student Development, Student Employee of the Year Award
This award recognizes an outstanding student employee who has demonstrated excellent communication skills, professionalism, and teamwork in their on-campus employment. The recipient of this award is a student who exemplifies active listening skills, effective work habits, and contributes daily to an inclusive work environment. This award is open to all student employees within the Division of Student Development.
Servant Leadership Award
The Servant Leadership Award recognizes students who represent any of a number of organizations on campus, (categories listed below). Students who are nominated for a Servant Leadership Award have gone above and beyond the calling of their group and are seen as servants first. These students are often characterized as reliable, collaborative, motivational, organized and communicative, and have willingness to place the goals of the group before personal gain. Students may be nominated in more than one category, but separate nominations for each category must be submitted. (Note: Students who receive this award must be involved for at least two semesters.)

The Bill Nordmann Community Service Award
This award is named for Bill Nordmann, a 1988 graduate of Saint Louis University who lost his life in a 1992 plane crash. During his years at SLU, Nordmann was very involved in student organizations, particularly those associated with community service and campus ministry. After graduating he joined the Peace Corps to extend his commitment to helping and learning about others. This award recognizes his spirit and the significant impact he had upon student service initiatives at SLU. It is given to the student organization or student committee that has had the most impact on the sites or agencies to which the members have contributed volunteer service. (Note: This award does not apply if students receive credit, certificates or payment for their service.)
Outstanding Organization Award (Large and Small)
This award recognizes chartered student organizations that have demonstrated a high level of commitment and involvement by their members, as well as impacted the campus or community environment in a positive way.
New Student Organization
This award recognizes new student organizations that have demonstrated a high level of commitment and involvement by their members, as well as impacted the campus or community environment in a positive way. (Note: This group must be in existence for fewer than three academic years.)
The Phil Lyons Outstanding Staff Adviser Award
The Phil Lyons Outstanding Staff Adviser Award is given to the student organization staff adviser who has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the organization through investments of time and energy, who has impacted the student members in a significant way and who has been a role model as members grow in their involvement in the organization.
The Avis E. Meyer Outstanding Faculty Adviser Award
The Avis E. Meyer Outstanding Faculty Adviser Award is given to the student organization faculty adviser who has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to the organization through investments of time and energy, who has impacted the student members in a significant way and who has been a role model as members grow in their involvement in the organization.
The Faculty Commitment to Experiential Learning Award
The faculty commitment to experiential learning award honors a faculty member who has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to student learning and understands that learning occurs both in and out of the classroom environment. This faculty member has promoted experiential learning in its various forms (i.e. service learning, learning community and first-year interest group involvement, internship and career exposure, etc.).
